Understanding thread lift
What it is
Fine dissolvable threads passed under the skin through a blunt needle. They lift tissue along their line straight away, and as they dissolve over the following months they prompt collagen to form where they sat. That second, slower part is where much of the lasting result comes from.
What it helps with
Early laxity of the mid face, the jawline and the brow. It suits someone who feels things have started to slide, who does not want surgery, and for whom filler would only add weight without lifting anything. It has a ceiling, and knowing where that ceiling sits is the point of the consultation.
What happens in the session
The lift is planned and marked with you sitting up. Local anaesthetic, then the threads are placed through small entry points. Around forty five minutes to an hour. You feel pulling and pressure rather than pain, and the area stays tight for a while afterwards.
How the result comes in
An immediate lift, then swelling that settles over one to two weeks, then a gradual firming over eight to twelve weeks as collagen builds along the thread lines. The effect typically holds for a year to eighteen months before it needs revisiting.
Worth knowing before you book
Expect to feel the threads for a few weeks and to avoid wide mouth opening, dental work and facial massage during that time. Bruising and slight puckering early on are normal and settle. If your laxity is advanced she will tell you surgery is the honest answer rather than sell you a course of threads.
